--------TAKE THE PLEDGE--------

Auschwitz begins wherever someone looks at a slaughterhouse and thinks 'They're only animals'' - Theodor Adorno

Why Bother?

Besides saving hundreds of animals, becoming vegetarian can greatly improve your health and lifestyle. It introduces you to brand new foods, and you'll find yourself eating much more fruit and vegetables.

The oldest women ever to live was Jeanne Calment lived to be over 120. She was a vegetarian.

Red meat greatly increases your chances of heart disease, and heart disease begins in childhood. A vegetarian diet can reverse the effects of heart disease.

People may say that humans have always eaten meat. But though it may have been required during the ice age, when plant life was very limited, it was essential. But humans can survive on a plant based diet. In this day and age, meat is not required for a healthy diet. If anything, it is bad for you.

With so many great alternatives to meat, such as quorn, soya, TVP and tofu, becoming a vegetarian is easy. But you don't have to rely on meat alternatives. Eggs are a great source of protein aswell, but if you'd rather become vegan, then your main source would be pulses and nuts, and you couldn't eat quorn. By becoming vegetarian, there are so many new things you can try - even if your family eats meat, they can try them too.

Even if for medical reasons you cannot become vegetarian, try to eat as little meat as possible and only buy free range and organic. Even the little things can help.  Try to visit a local farm and see how their animals are looked after. If they aren't treated well, don't buy from them. If they are, keep buying the little meat you need to eat to survive from there.

 Help the Animals

Animals on factory farms are subjected to mindless abuse. As farm animals are not protected by the same animals abuse laws as cats, dogs and other pets, factory workers are able to abuse these poor animals without having to face a prison sentence or fine.

A recent undercover video showed chickens being kicked down corridors and vigerously thrown onto crates, pigs being stood on and cows having their throats slit and being left to die in pain.

By eating meat, you support this cruel industry. You wouldn't eat your cat or dog, so why eat these poor animals? You turn up your nose in disgust at people eating dogs, and yet you settle down to a meal of cruelty chicken, or bashed beef.

Why pet one and eat the other? Go vegetarian today.

What about 'Them'?

A common excuse for eating meat from meat eaters is 'but people in poor countries like Africa would give anything for the meat we eat, so why waste it'. But one of the reasons they have nothing to eat, is the grain used to feed the animals for your dinner could be used to feed them.

So, by giving up eating meat, you can;

  • Become a healthier and happier person
  • Save over 100 animals lives a year
  • Help prevent needless cruelty to animals
  • Help people in poor countries get the food they need
